Mary Carmen Aguilar lives and works in the western suburbs of Melbourne. She has been drawing and painting since primary school and . Graduated from Victoria University with a Creative Industries Diploma of Visual Art.
On her final year at University,Inspired by a collection of photographs taken of demolished buildings in Melbourne's West, she investigated urban decay and derelict industrial buildings and their attraction to vandals and graffiti artists. She explores textures, layering and constructing marks.
Her passion for figurative drawing has led to her taking commissions for charcoal portraits. Mary says “The use of Charcoal gives a sense of nostalgia to a drawing; it creates a sensitive and mysterious image". Although oils and acrylics are her preferred medium, Mary also works with watercolour, pastel and ink.
